Raleigh, North Carolina — Former Davidson head men’s basketball coach Bob McKillop will be inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame this spring, it was announced Tuesday morning.
The Class of 2024 is listed alphabetically: Randolph Childress, Sheila Ford Duncan, Caroline Lind, McKillop, Jim Nantz, Pettis Norman, Shea Ralph, Don Skatele, Steve Smith Sr. , Marilyn “Ku” Tucker, and Ron Wellman.
The group of 11 will be enshrined together at the 60th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Gala to be held at the Charlotte Convention Center on Friday evening, May 10, starting at 5 p.m. Their induction brings the total number of Hall of Fame members to 411.
“This year’s class of North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame inductees is dynamic in many ways,” said Dr. Jerry McGee, Chairman of the Hall’s Board of Directors. “Given that this is our 60th commencement ceremony, they are not only part of the milestone group, but also representative of the entire Charlotte community, North Carolina, the United States, and the rest of the world.”
McKillop led Davidson College to 23 conference championships (15 regular season, eight tournament wins), 10 NCAA Tournament appearances and 634 wins. During the 2021-22 season, McKillop led the Wildcats to the second-most wins in a single season, going 27-7 overall, including a program-best 15-3 in the Atlantic 10. Ta. McKillop’s Wildcats reached postseason play 19 times, appeared in eight NIT tournaments and the 2011 College Basketball Invitational. Davidson, the 2007-08 NABC National Coach of the Year, played in the 2008 NCAA Midwest Regional Championship Game, winning over three nationally ranked opponents.
