David Johnson, who co-founded Etkin Johnson Real Estate Partners with Bruce Etkin in 1989, is selling his $1 million, 8,300-square-foot Cherry Hills Village home built from imported Belgian glass.
Johnson listed the Michael Brendle-designed two-story, six-bedroom, five-bathroom home on Random Road on Nov. 17 for $8.5 million.
He bought the house in 2003 for $3.6 million.
Johnson said the glass walls make the home unique.
“It’s great to have natural light. It gives you the experience of being indoors and outdoors at the same time,” he said.
The home’s floor-to-ceiling glass walls offer views of the mountains and Glenmoor Country Club, and the layout takes advantage of glass by placing the living areas on the second floor.
“This allows you to enjoy the view when you’re in the kitchen or when entertaining. The view is amazing whether it’s winter or summer,” Johnson said.
Despite all the glass, this home is set on 2.4 wooded acres, making it secluded and private.
Listing agent Trish Campbell said the home, built in 2002, is like a work of art. Building a glass house like it is now would be too expensive, she said.
“Architecturally it’s amazing. It’s definitely one of a kind,” Campbell said. “It’s a very Californian home. It will appeal to a unique buyer with an artistic eye.”
This home provides radiant heat on both floors, a glass bridge hallway, and two glass staircases. There is also a chef’s kitchen with high-end appliances, a music room, and two offices.
This home also has a pool with water feature, fire pit, hot tub, and pickleball court.
Mr. Johnson retired in 2021 when he and Mr. Etkin sold the assets of their commercial real estate company. The company sold nearly $900 million in real estate assets, including the sale of its Colorado Technology Center portfolio for $400 million.
Currently, he focuses on spending time with his family and his philanthropic work, including his work at Penrose St. Paul’s Church. Francis Hospital Foundation. He and his wife plan to downsize and split their time between living in Florida and Vail.
