Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence appeared in Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers recovering from an ankle injury and concussion. He left the game with a shoulder injury.
He will undergo further testing on Monday to determine whether he can play next Sunday against the Panthers.
“It’s a nuisance” Lawrence said after the 30-12 loss to the Buccaneers, via ESPN.com. “I hope it’s not a big deal, but yeah, I’m in trouble right now.”
Lawrence injured his shoulder late in the third quarter while diving for a first down on a fourth-and-1. He remained in the game for the remainder of the drive and then conceded to quarterback CJ Beathard.
“When I landed, I felt something was wrong,” Lawrence said. “And the next play was kind of a pain to throw. I wanted to finish the drive out so I could get some points and on the next two points [conversion attempt I] If you look at the way I threw, you could see that I really couldn’t get my shoulder up enough to continue playing.
“I wanted to stay there, but if I did, I would have just hurt everyone at that point, so they called me to just sit there all night.”
Lawrence has never made a start in his three-year NFL career. In 2023, he returned the following week after suffering his knee injury, ankle surgery, and most recently a concussion. The Jaguars are currently on a four-game losing streak and need Lawrence if they want to win the AFC South.
The only good news for Jacksonville is that both the Colts and Texans lost on Sunday, leaving them tied for first in the division at 8-7.
The Jaguars finish the season at home against the Panthers and at Tennessee.
