New Delhi: A rape suspect brought to India from Bahrain handed over a slip to the Delhi Police at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, setting off a battle between CISF and the police over who should be responsible.
The accused, identified as Amandeep Singh, was brought to Delhi from the Gulf country at 4:55 am on December 20.
Police said a surveillance circular (LOC) was issued against Singh, who was stopped at the immigration office and handed over to Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel stationed at the airport. He had been on the run since April 2020.
“The CISF personnel were on their way to hand over him to the Delhi Police when he escaped by jumping from counter number 33 of the arrival section of the Immigration Department around 10 am,” a police officer told PTI.
When one of the police officers who was escorting Singh went to the toilet, the accused ran away. According to the FIR, CISF staff were on duty.
“Singh was in the custody of the CISF personnel on duty. It has now come to light that around 9:57 am, Singh escaped from custody while the CISF security personnel were going to the toilet. Singh was identified as No. 33 Singh illegally escaped from the arrival immigration area by jumping over the counter at the ‘gate (Indian side). Singh thus illegally fled from the arrival immigration area and defrauded the Indian immigrants.Thus, the relevant provisions of the Act A case may be filed against him on the basis of ,” the FIR said.
According to the agency, surveillance camera footage shows Singh walking from Terminal 3 to Terminal 2.
However, the CISF contradicted the Delhi Police and denied any negligence on the part of the CISF.
CISF Chief Spokesperson Shrikant Kishore said, “It is pertinent to note that there was no detailed entry of LOC Pax (Singh) by the immigration officer in the register on arrival”, adding that the suspect was He added that he was not in custody.
The search for the missing accused is underway.
