One of the most decorated area women’s basketball players in history is among the latest class of players to be inducted into the Greater Lansing Sports Hall of Fame.
Former Lansing Christian standout Tiffany Sheaves, who was named the state’s Miss Basketball and Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior in 2004, is among the class inducted into the Hall of Fame in August. be.
Others in this year’s class include Chris Henderson, Kelly Holland, Molly Peterman, Tony Trierweiler, Rodgett Ware, Roger Wing, and media personalities Fred Heumann and Mike Griffiths.
The teams inducted into the Hall of Fame are the 1991 East Lansing football state championship team and the 1978 state title-winning Rhinebusuk softball team.
Henderson is one of the most decorated wrestlers in Sexton history and was a three-time state champion in the late 1980s. Holland, a Waverly graduate, was a decorated golfer and won a state title in 1984.
Peterman was a basketball standout at Eastern University, then played for Detroit Mercy before turning pro.
Trierweiler was an award-winning baseball player and was considered one of the top batters to come out of Greater Lansing. He continued to shine in Ferris. Ware was a standout track and field athlete and was a three-time state champion in the 110 high hurdles at Sexton from 1985 to 1987. Wing is a decorated car racer and part of the Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame.
Mr. Human was a longtime broadcaster in the area, having worked at both WILX and WLNS. Griffith is a Mason graduate and is known nationally as a sportswriter.
Laingsburg became the second area softball team to win the MHSAA softball state title, coming one year after DeWitt won the first.
East Lansing won the Class A state title in 1991 under the guidance of legendary coach Jeff Smith.
