Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh has interviewed for NFL jobs in each of the past two recruiting cycles. Will Harbaugh be back in action as the next cycle approaches?
Harbaugh, who attended a press conference related to next Monday’s NCAA semifinal game against Alabama, did not respond to questions about a possible return to the NFL.
“Such a single-minded heart” Harbaugh said when asked about the latest NFL rumors, via Joe Reedy of the Associated Press. “That’s how we’ve approached things. Literally, any day, we try to make the most of it. Let’s take control of the day. Then go to bed tonight, wake up tomorrow, and make the most of it. We’re a dedicated group of people. We’re very focused on taking care of today’s business and seeing if we can do the same thing tomorrow.”
Harbaugh gave a similar answer when asked specifically about the Chargers’ current vacancy.
“Yeah, I’m very one-sided about this game,” Harbaugh said. “For now, just enjoy with your family, your team, your players. . . . Let’s have fun. Then go back to work and see if we can’t dominate the day. We had a good encounter tonight. We’ll wake up tomorrow.” We’re going to practice and see if we can take an advantage that day… One day at a time, one play at a time, that’s how we approach each day.”
Sooner or later, Harbaugh will run out of games to prepare for. It remains to be seen what the reign of the day will mean.
Does that mean signing a contract to stay at Michigan? Will it be returning to the NFL and chasing what he calls the ultimate football prize: winning the Super Bowl?
He said, “I have.”unfinished business” He coached four seasons in the NFL, almost winning the Super Bowl and coming close to winning two others. Is it finally time for him to return to the NFL after his stint at Michigan this season?
Whatever his plans are, he’s not talking about it right now. This tends to strengthen the idea that he is actually considering retirement.
