Has anyone seen the “JMU Offered!” series? Are there any tweets on your social media timeline this week? If you’re like us, you’re having a hard time keeping track of the many transfer players being offered a spot on his 2024 roster for JMU football by Bob Chesney and his ilk. That’s probably true.
We are creating this page to help you better remember the targets of all JMU transfer portals. It’s probably a little confusing, but we hope it’s also a fun resource for hiring enthusiasts. Transfers committed to JMU are monitored in the transfer portal tracker, not on this page.
quarterback
The Dukes have yet to publicly offer a quarterback in the transfer portal.
run back
My civil litigation team won’t like me saying this, but stay tuned for future updates.
wide receiver
Jamoy Mays, Chattanooga – Mays caught 62 passes for 1,037 yards and four touchdowns in 2023. He is one of only 10 FCS receivers to surpass 1,000 yards this season. He has one more season of eligibility remaining.
Isaiah Alston, Army – Although Army doesn’t throw the ball much, Alston has proven to be one of the most dynamic receivers in the program. He has 49 career receptions for 1,031 yards and six touchdowns. He has averaged 21 yards per catch over his career. Alston has his two years of eligibility.
Teres Traynor, Idaho – Traynor started his career at Western Kentucky and had a productive year at Idaho State in 2023, catching 24 passes for 370 yards and two touchdowns. He has one year of eligibility left.
Jalen Varner, Emporia State – Division II prospect caught 90 passes for 1,008 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2023. He plans to be with his FBS team in 2024, which will be his final college season.
Fred Farrier, UAB – Farrier had 18 catches for 266 yards and one touchdown in 2023. He has offers from several Group of 5 programs, including those in the Sun Belt. I have two years left of my farrier qualification.
tight end
Cole Rusk, Murray – The Racers did not have very good results in 2023, finishing with just 2 wins and 9 losses. But Rask was a bright spot, catching 39 passes for 507 yards and six touchdowns, all of which were team highs. He stands 6 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 250 pounds, and Power Five teams will likely want Rask’s services. He has two years of eligibility.
Tyler Foster, Ohio State – Foster had 33 catches, 396 yards and four touchdowns over the past two seasons for one of the better MAC programs. He’s 6’5” tall and weighs 250 pounds, and he’s one of many JMU targets offered by the Power Five. He has one year of eligibility.
Rico Walker, Maryland – Walker, a former four-star prospect, caught four passes for 27 yards in his one season with the Terps. He has three years of eligibility left.
offensive line
Mike Barr, Lafayette – Barr was a 2023 All-Patriot League first-team player and his team defeated Holy Cross in the conference. He plays multiple spots across the offensive line and has started 25 games in his career. He has one year of eligibility left.
defense line
Elijah Hills, Albany – The defensive lineman (6-foot-2, 280 pounds) has recorded 59 tackles, 16.5 of which came for loss over the past two seasons. Albany had the best defense in the FCS in 2023. Hills has one year of eligibility remaining.
Terry Lockett, Syracuse – Lockett (6-foot-3, 280 pounds), a third-year player at Syracuse, recorded 25 tackles, including three for loss in 2023. He also recovered three fumbles. Lockett has two seasons of eligibility.
Mateen Ibirogba (George Town) – In two seasons at Georgetown, Ibirogba recorded 48 tackles and 9.5 tackles for loss. At 6-foot-4 and 250 pounds, Ibirogba could play on the edge for the Dukes. He has two more seasons of eligibility remaining.
Canius Bourne, UTEP – Vaughn started his career in the JUCO ranks and performed well at UTEP in 2023. The defensive end (6-foot-2, 225 pounds) finished the season with 19 tackles, including six sacks. He has two years of eligibility left.
Tavion Woodard, Ball State University – Woodard has played a key defensive role at Ball State the past three seasons, with his most statistically productive season coming in 2021 (8.5 tackles for loss, 5 sacks). Woodard is listed at 6 feet 4 inches tall, weighs 265 pounds, and has one year of eligibility remaining. He will help fill a need at defensive end.

defensive backs
Terry Jones, ODU – Jones, now a safety for the Monarchs, made 107 tackles in 2023 and received Sun Belt Honorable Mention. He is expected to be the starter right away at safety. He has one year of eligibility left.
Marquis Robinson, South Alabama – Cornerback had 36 tackles and three interceptions for the Jaguars in 2023. One of the interceptions came in South Alabama’s blowout win over Oklahoma State. He recorded four tackles against JMU. He has one year of eligibility left.
Jordyn Morgan, UNLV – Morgan, who started his career at Iowa State, was a standout for the Rebels in 2022, but played in only one game in 2023. He has two years of eligibility left.
specialist
There are no open calls yet. The Dukes have Ryan Hanson back as a punter, but could look for a placekicker or long snapper.
