On 5 and 6 December 2023, World Heritage officials from the Arab region and representatives from ICOMOS, ICCROM and IUCN met in Manama, Bahrain to review and discuss progress in implementing the Arab Regional Plan of Action. State (2021-2027).The action plan was approved with 44 extensions.th The World Heritage Committee met in 2021, and much work has been done since then.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Lazar Eloundu Assomo, Director of the World Heritage Directorate, said that this action plan is based on the strategic objectives and priorities identified by the Parties in the region, and primarily in each of the Parties. He emphasized that this is a plan for Parties shall further promote the implementation of: world heritage convention regional.
Participants had the opportunity to briefly outline the progress in implementing the Action Plan (2021-2027), followed by a discussion on each of the three strategic objectives outlined therein. A draft questionnaire on the mid-term evaluation of plan implementation at the party level was also presented to participants.
The meeting concluded with a visit to the World Heritage Site “Testimony of the Island Economy, Parling” in Muharraq City, Bahrain.
Organized and successfully held by the UNESCO World Heritage Center in collaboration with the Arab Regional World Heritage Center (ARC-WH), this regional focus meeting highlighted synergies between regional World Heritage experts and highlighted priority areas.
