Fifteen years ago, it cost an owner $250,000 to give the middle finger at a game. There is currently a fee in place to pour drinks for fans during games.
of fined $300,000 Panthers owner David Tepper is hilarious. He is worth $20.6 billion. The fine represents 0.00146% of his total net worth.
To put this into context, this is the equivalent of fining someone worth $1 million (check your math again) a staggering $14.56.
That’s a joke. That’s shameful. This is the latest sign of the double standard being applied to players and owners.
The Patriots and Panthers banned fans from their stadiums for throwing drinks. That’s a real punishment. A short suspension of the owner would be effective punishment. What truly punishes Tepper for acting like a spoiled brat, even though he paid a farting amount of $300,000 in the pocket of one of the richest men in the NFL. There is no.
The situation highlights the reality facing the NFL as franchise values skyrocket. The only test for joining a club is whether you can fund the team. You don’t need to know anything about soccer. There is no requirement that you not be an idiot.
Think of it this way. Daniel Snyder has committed antisocial behavior during his time as an NFL owner, but even he didn’t throw drinks at the league’s customers. That’s Tepper.
Unless he truly cleans up his act, he won’t stop. Maybe at some point he’ll do something like the league kicks him out as club oligarch. But until that happens, Panthers fans will be stuck with someone who, under the right (or wrong) circumstances, will throw booze at them and happily give away 0.00146 percent of his net worth.
