Bahrain Steel, a prominent global supplier of high-grade iron ore pellets, announced major investment projects totaling up to $250 million during a high-profile event themed ‘Rethinking Sustainability’ announced. The project, which was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa and several ministers, is in line with the company’s environmental protection and decarbonization efforts.
The investment includes the construction of a structural shed and solar power plant on a dedicated industrial site to support Bahrain Steel’s overall operations. The innovative storage shed is set to be the world’s largest pre-engineered building and is intended to capture airborne iron ore dust emissions. The hut will measure 1,500 meters long, 172 meters wide and 42 meters high and is expected to be completed by 2026. The project focuses on controlling airborne dust emissions, improving air quality, and ensuring worker safety.
Additionally, Bahrain Steel has installed the Kingdom’s largest 100MW solar power project with an innovative 42MW rooftop solar installation, making it the largest project of its kind in the world. The solar power plant will offset a significant portion of Bahrain Steel’s electricity needs and reduce carbon emissions.
Strategically located on designated industrial sites in Salman Industrial City, these projects will demonstrate synergies between the public and private sectors and contribute to Bahrain’s pursuit of renewable energy and net zero target by 2060. Bahrain Steel CEO Dilip George highlighted the company’s efforts. We strengthen our commitment to sustainable practices and the environment, positioning Bahrain Steel as a leader in responsible and sustainable production practices.
