Young people were able to find out more about Blackburn’s career in science and mathematics.
The ‘Your Future in STEM’ event was organized by charity IMO in partnership with Blackburn University.
This was part of the Diversity in STEM initiative, which aims to “ignite a spark of curiosity” among young people and the wider community in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
A total of 20 organizations hosted stalls at the event, including The Making Rooms, the Institute of Physics, Lancaster University, Highett Education and the Weavers Guild Association.
IMO Senior Girls, Senior Boys and social action groups were on hand to assist people.
Attendees were able to delve into the magical realm of the Harry Potter-themed lab and recreate the infamous traps from Home Alone.
Sabbir Musa, Director of Youth Employment, said: “Events like this are important to encourage and open doors for young people to consider STEM opportunities.
“The venue was very busy on the day with young volunteers helping out. It was also great to welcome exhibitors who gave us useful insight into their work through conversations with young people. is.
“The interactive workshop was very interesting and well attended.”
Curriculum Leader Sixth Form and Lead Teacher Amin Ahmad said:: “The event was busy but consistently consistent.
“It was clear that community members also appreciated our great work in encouraging girls to get into STEM and working with young people.
“The young people working with you are a credit to you and your team. They were very courteous, smiling throughout and attentive to the guests of the day.”
Project Coordinator Nazarana Yusuf said: “I am honored to be part of a passionate team driving the vision of paving the way to a better future for all young people.
“We are extremely grateful to the Ironmongers’ Foundation for funding this challenging project and helping us unlock the power of STEAM and materials science.”
IMO Charity has announced that it will soon launch a unique youth employment program that will support young people over three years from Key Stage 4 school age through the provision of mentorship and work experience.
