Not every real estate agent can say that rapper Wiz Khalifa comes to him for investment advice and even collaborates on music projects.
However, Akash and Krish Chandani of Compass’ Chandani Group are two exceptions.
“Our parents were a little crazy about it,” Krish said, referring to Deepak and Karishma Chandani, the husband-and-wife team that founded Bay Area brokerage firm Anthem Group in the late 1980s. “I was,” he admitted. “They were like, ‘What is this?'” Who is this guy? ‘”
The twin brothers grew up in the Bay Area and had an affinity for technology and engineering from an early age, the brothers told Inman in a joint interview last month. After high school, they attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and graduated with degrees in engineering, but stumbled on their passion for music. In 2020, they also decided to go “all in” on the real estate industry, joining their parents at Anthem Group, before moving to Compass with their father in the summer of 2021. Karishma Chandani will continue to serve as President and Broker of Anthem Group. I frequently provide general real estate guidance to the twins.
Recently, Akash (also known as ‘Kush’) and Krish (also known as ‘Luv’) made their first foray into reality TV, co-starring with nine other identical twins in the Amazon Prime series. twin loveThere, they were separated for long periods of time in a social experiment to determine whether they were attracted to the same family of potential romantic partners in separate locations.
Now, the brothers are a triple threat spanning luxury real estate, the music industry, and reality television. The past few years have been a whirlwind of fun and hard work, but their moves have also been completely strategic.
bitten by the music bug
“It started with being in the Bay Area,” Akash told Inman. “Everything starts here when it comes to technology. Being here, we started thinking about engineering from an early age. And obviously, our parents were real estate agents for about 40 years, so I We started thinking in that field as well. We originally went to college for civil engineering or architecture, and over time we developed a passion for music. The thought processes of engineering and real estate were already familiar to us. It was built into our system, and along the way we developed a passion for music.”
While students at RPI, Akash and Krish began spending much of their free time creating music and formed the R&B duo THEMXXNLIGHT. They posted about eight original songs on SoundCloud, and once they got a little attention there, Wiz Khalifa took notice of their work.
The brothers eventually moved to Los Angeles for about a year and a half and were featured several times on Khalifa’s album Rolling Papers 2, which Krish described as a “miracle.”
While their musical connection with Khalifa has not yet translated into their representation in real estate transactions, the brothers have certainly caught Khalifa’s attention when it comes to investment advice.
“He asked us about the market and we just talked to him for about an hour about the Los Angeles market and the Bay Area,” Akash said.
“He has a lot of money,” agreed Krish. “Many of our clients…are executives and founders of the biggest technology companies. So we’re used to dealing with people who have money, so we’re used to dealing with people who have money, so we’re used to working with Wiz and saying, ‘You’re this good. It was very easy for me to say, “I have a net worth of 1,000, so I should invest in these places.” Don’t limit yourself to LA. The Bay Area ranks highest in the United States…” and so on. So we give him the brief.
“We have not yet represented him in any transaction,” he added. “But I think the day he wants to invest in the Bay Area, we will be the first people he talks to.”
These days, the brothers spend about 75 percent of their time working on their real estate business, leaving a few hours late at night to work on their music. They told Inman that they have about 200 unreleased songs in reserve, even though they don’t spend most of their days making music. So for now, it’s important to mix those tracks and release them strategically.
addicted to reality shows
After a short stint in LA, Krish and Akash returned to the Bay Area and joined their parents full-time in the real estate industry. Shortly after that, I got a call from a producer. twin loveafter a lengthy casting process, was selected to appear on the reality show, which was released in November.
“Importantly, this was an identical twin show and an opportunity to represent our South Asian culture, which is quite rare to do on a global network like this,” said Krish. Told. “Then, one more thing. [opportunity] It was about expressing our real estate brand and our music brand at the same time, coming together as twins. ”
However, that experience was quite different from others they had together. Throughout the filming process, they were separated from each other along with the show’s other set of twins, which put them in a loop for a short period of time.
“We thought we would be together in the house, and we’re used to empowering ourselves and being one being as twins, so we had a lot of power and we’re used to this.” We were trying to enter the house and thought no one would be able to stop us,” Akash said.
But that wasn’t the case. It was the first time the siblings had been apart for more than a week at a time. Therefore, we both felt a little anxious.
“We were nervous the whole time because we had never been apart for that long,” Krish said. “But it was a fun experience, so we would like to do it.” [television] will be displayed again.
The backbone of luxury real estate
On the real estate side, families in all nine Bay Area counties are busy working all day long, creating an unusual market among Bay Area real estate teams.
Siblings often work on showings in the North Bay, while parents prioritize contracts in the South Bay. Sometimes, they told Inman, at the end of the day, the twins would look down at their phones and realize they’d been on the phone with their parents for 11 hours all day.
This team, the Chandani Group of Compass, obviously has a core group of very dedicated agents, the Chandani twins and their father Deepak, and six more agents. But they’re also looking to add about six more young, tech-savvy agents to the fold soon, some of whom will be based in Los Angeles, the twins said.
As it stands, the twins have achieved sales of over $200 million in their still young careers, while Deepak has achieved sales of over $3 billion. Senior Chandani was also the developer of a real estate solution he called REEZ.com, which he eventually sold to Fidelity National Information Systems and was later hired by Alain Pinel’s Realtors, which is now part of Compass. Ta. He also created Chandani Connect, an app for luxury real estate and concierge services.
Although their various endeavors may seem worlds apart from the outside, the brothers believe their budding careers in music, real estate, and reality television feed into each other. Told.
Their connections within the music industry are gradually permeating their real estate careers and promotional events. twin love We have also helped many real estate clients and connected us with many potential future clients.
“From music to real estate to reality TV, it gives everyone a reason to connect the dots,” Akash said.
“I think the way we turn every music fan, every event attendee, every friend into a real estate customer is very unique,” Krish added. “And because we know our finances so well, we can advise anyone of any age or from any background…We tell people in the music industry how to manage their real estate finances. I can even give you some advice on how to handle it. I think that’s pretty big.”
