Kia EV9 large electric SUV wins 2024 North American Utility of the Year award, Toyota Prius Hybrid wins best car award, Ford Super Duty pickup wins truck award
PONTIAC, MI — The Kia EV9 large electric SUV won the 2024 North American Utility of the Year award, while the car award went to the Toyota Prius Hybrid and the truck award went to Ford’s Super Duty pickup.
The honor, announced Thursday at the Automotive Press Association meeting in Detroit, is often used in advertising by automakers. Approximately 50 automotive journalists from the United States and Canada tested the vehicles and rated them based on how well they set new benchmarks for each segment of the automotive market.
All of this year’s SUV finalists have electric versions, including the GV70 electric compact SUV from Hyundai’s luxury brand Genesis, the Hyundai Kona, and the Kona EV.
The car shortlist included Hyundai’s Ioniq 6 EV and the redesigned Honda Accord midsize sedan, along with the Prius and its plug-in version called the Prius Prime.
Truck finalists included General Motors’ redesigned Chevrolet Colorado midsize pickup and Chevrolet Silverado EV pickup.
The winning vehicles were selected from an initial list of 52 eligible cars, trucks and SUVs, which was narrowed down to 25 in September. Finalists were announced in November.
Electric vehicles accounted for more than half of the finalists, demonstrating the impact new technology is having on the U.S. auto market.
