The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), in collaboration with West Africa Automotive Services Ltd., has launched a motor vehicle safety kit to promote safe driving habits in the country.
The National Executive Chairman of RTEAN, Alhaji Musa Maitakobi, while launching the initiative in Abuja on Thursday, reiterated the association’s commitment to promoting a safe environment for all motorists.
His representative was an ambassador from the association’s National Vice-Presidential Administration Office. Mohammed Abubakar.
Mr Maitakovi said the aim of the initiative is to encourage car owners and drivers to equip their vehicles with comprehensive safety kit.
He said the association is determined to educate individuals on the critical components that contribute to a well-equipped safety kit.
Maitakovi also said the initiative is expected to promote safe driving practices and responsible ownership by highlighting the importance of preventive measures.
He called on the public to work with the association to bring about change by equipping all vehicles on the roads with proper safety kit.
” The impact of unforeseen situations and accidents can be minimized, ultimately leading to safer communities and a brighter future for everyone.
The launch of this initiative is an important milestone for us. We pride ourselves on making these safety kits easily available to all vehicle owners, both private, state, and federal.
“We can make a huge impact in protecting lives and strengthening our overall safety kit of essential items.
These items are reflective vests, traffic cones, safety helmets, and warning triangles to increase visibility and alert other drivers in the event of an accident.
“First aid supplies such as bandages, disinfectants, and wound dressings to provide immediate treatment in case of injury.”
He stressed that the association’s main mission is to ensure the safety and well-being of local residents.
This is consistent with United Nations and government policies on accident prevention and victim care.
“Safety kits will be available at cheaper and more affordable prices at all branches across the state, local branches and houses of worship.”
West Africa Automotive Services Ltd. Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Hafez said safety is not a privilege but a fundamental right.
Everyone riding a vehicle should have confidence that their journey is safe.
“Our collaboration with RTEAN demonstrated a significant commitment to ensuring the safety of our 16 million members across 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).”
National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Director-General Malam Ahmed Habib praised the association’s efforts.
“On behalf of NEMA, I would like to commend the organizers of this safety initiative. I think you are very proactive from a disaster prevention perspective.
” Some injuries can be prevented during an accident if you use the proper safety kit. “This initiative will go a long way in reducing the severity of injuries and deaths caused by road accidents,” he said.
The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, stressed the need for all motorists to wear motor vehicle safety kit.
Speaking on behalf of the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Mr Ahmed Alhassan, Mr Egbetokun said: “We will partner with the association to ensure that every driver has a safety kit.”
“We are working closely with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other relevant agencies to ensure that all drivers maintain this safety kit.” (NAN)(www.nannews)
