Following media reports about the development earlier today, NIO (NYSE:NIO) confirmed that it has entered into a battery replacement partnership with Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC) and Chery Automobile.
According to a statement from the EV maker, JAC, Chery and Nio have reached a strategic cooperation agreement on battery replacement, with JAC Chairman Xiang Xingchu and Chery Chairman Ying Tongyue representing both automakers and Nio’s founder. and Chairman and CEO William Li.
According to Nio’s statement, Nio, JAC, and Chery will carry out in-depth strategic cooperation in battery standards, battery replacement technology, and the construction and operation of a battery replacement service network.
Nio and JAC are working closely together, and the latest battery replacement business partnership opens a new chapter in the strategic cooperation between the two companies, the company said.
“In recent years, Chery has achieved remarkable results in domestic and international markets, and Chery’s new energy vehicle business is growing rapidly. JAC’s deal with Chery is the latest strategic cooperation between Nio’s battery replacement business and an industry partner, after Changan Automobile and Geely Holding, the company said.
This will further facilitate sharing and long-term development of Nio’s charging and battery replacement business, the company added.
Nio views its battery replacement service as similar to a cloud service, and Li has mentioned several times that the service is at a stage where it can be opened up to partners.
On November 21, Nio and Changan signed a cooperation agreement for battery exchange business, in which the two companies will cooperate in building and sharing a battery exchange network and developing models that support battery exchange.
On November 29, Nio and Geely signed a strategic cooperation agreement to jointly advance the development of swappable battery standards, build and share battery exchange networks, and develop battery swappable vehicles.
JAC, Nio’s vehicle manufacturing partner, previously operated two factories in Hefei, Anhui province, the Nio F1 factory and F2 factory, and on December 5, the two companies announced that Nio would acquire the assets, including the two factories. Then he announced.
