Teenage sensation Luke the Nuke Littler made history for Bahrain on Friday by becoming the youngest player to throw nine darts in the World Series.
Two days shy of his 17th birthday, the Briton scored a perfect leg in a 6-3 quarter-final victory over fourth-seeded compatriot Nathan Aspinall at the Bahrain Darts Masters.
Phil Taylor was the only player to throw nine darters and score 501 points with minimal darts in the 2013 World Series.
Littler, who will face Gerwyn Price in the semi-finals, made the rare headlines for reaching the final of the PDC World Darts Championship at London’s Alexandra Palace, making him an unlikely sporting hero. This will be his first tournament since then.
World champion Luke Humphries lost to Price 6-4 in the quarterfinals, ending his 20-game winning streak.
Littler’s nine-dart sequence was accomplished by throwing a triple 20 in the first seven darts, followed by a treble 19 and a double 12. Aspinall then joined in the celebration as the crowd erupted.
