The Royal Navy announced that two British warships collided off the coast of Bahrain.
Footage on social media showed HMS Chiddingfold backing up to HMS Bangor in the Gulf, sparking an official investigation.
There were no injuries on either ship, but “some damage was sustained,” the Navy said.
“We still don’t know why this happened,” said Maj. Gen. Edward Ahlgren.
“While we train our employees to the highest standards and strictly enforce machine safety standards, unfortunately these types of accidents can still occur.
“A full and thorough investigation is already underway and I can assure you that any changes to our procedures that could prevent further incidents will be implemented quickly.
“In the meantime, the UK will continue to play a key role in ensuring the safety of commercial shipping in the region.”
