Two Royal Navy mine-sweeping ships have been involved in a collision in a Bahrain port, the Royal Navy said.
No one was injured in the accident at Bahrain Port on Friday, it said. An investigation into this incident has been launched.
The Royal Navy is working with the US Navy in the Gulf region to protect ships in the Red Sea from a surge in attacks by the Yemen-based Houthis.
The Houthis say they are acting in solidarity with the Palestinian organization Hamas, which is in conflict with Israel in the Gaza Strip. The attack has sparked fears that global trade could be disrupted and supply bottlenecked.
Videos on social media showed one ship, HMS Chiddingfold, flipping onto another moored ship, HMS Bangor, with a loud crash that caused Bangor to shake.
Rear Admiral Edward Ahlgren, the Royal Navy’s commander of operations, said in a post on X that no one was injured, but there was some damage.
He said: “A full and thorough investigation is already underway and I can assure you that any procedural changes that could prevent further incidents will be implemented swiftly.”
“In the meantime, the UK will continue to play a key role in ensuring the safety of commercial shipping in the region.”
