Turkish Ambassador to Japan Korkut Gungen said in a recent interview with the Yomiuri Shimbun:[Japan] He is one of the leaders who will lead the fundamental transformation of the automobile industry,” and expressed his hope that Japanese companies, especially the automobile industry, will increase investment in Turkey.
In Turkey, Western automakers such as Toyota Motor Corporation, Isuzu Motors Corporation, and Ford Motor Company of the United States produce more than 1 million cars annually. 65% of exports from this production go to the EU, and the automaker values Turkey as his gateway to the EU. According to the ambassador, investment in electric vehicles (EVs) has increased in recent years.
On the other hand, the transition to EVs requires infrastructure such as chargers, so demand for gasoline-powered vehicles remains strong in emerging countries. Mr. Gungen praised Japan, saying, “Japan has a well-developed foundation for hybrid vehicle technology.”
With increased investment from Japanese companies, “Turkey will be able to transform technologically, which will lead to the export of high value-added products,” the ambassador said.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkey and Japan. The ambassador said that 80% of Turkish universities have engineering faculties and are “nurturing competitive engineers.” [industries]”
