Two British ships contributing to maritime security in the Gulf collided in a Bahrain port, according to reports. Two Royal Navy warships, HMS Chiddingfold and HMS Bangor, were reportedly collided while in port off the coast of Bahrain on January 18, prompting a Royal Navy inspection.
Video footage of the latest maritime disaster, which appears to show HMS Chiddingfold being reversed into HMS Bangor, has gone viral on social media platforms. No injuries were reported to the Bangor’s crew, which numbered 39 people, including mine warfare experts and demining divers. However, the ship suffered significant damage and a large hole in its hull. According to an anonymous source, HMS Chiddingfold became stuck in astern, she tells Mail Online.

The Chiddingfold was also involved in an accident in 2021. The Hunt-class mine countermeasures ship, which the Navy has used since 1984, collided with the Bangor and the Penzance, also off the coast of Bahrain. Both ships will act as specialized minesweepers and work together to keep trade flowing in the Gulf.
An incident involving two mine hunters was observed in Bahrain. A Ministry of Defense spokesperson told BBC News there were no casualties in the incident and that it would be inappropriate to comment as the investigation was ongoing. British Ministry of Defense Secretary of State Grant Shapps denied incompetence was to blame for the recent crashes. Just like when you see a plane crash, which is also a rare case, it’s a rare case, but it’s not called incompetence. He told Sky News it was right to give the examiner time to figure out what went wrong.
Maj. Gen. Edward Ahlgren said the cause of the collision was not yet determined. Individuals are trained to the highest standards and machine safety standards are strictly enforced. But he told the PA news agency that incidents of this nature could still occur.
