Tata Motors on Tuesday achieved the feat of overtaking Maruti Suzuki to become the country’s most valuable car company in terms of market capitalization.
Tata Motors stock ended the day nearly 3% higher, while Tata Motors DVR ended 1.50% higher. Tata Motors was also the top gainer on the Sensex in Tuesday’s trade. Tata Motors also hit an all-time high of Rs 885.95 on the NSE and Rs 886.30 on the BSE today.
As of the close of trading, Tata Motors’ market capitalization stood at Rs 2,87,326.59 crore, while Tata Motors DVR’s market capitalization stood at Rs 29,119.42 crore.
The combined market capitalization of Tata Motors and Tata Motors DVR stood at Rs 316,446.01 crore. In comparison, Maruti Suzuki’s market capitalization was Rs 3,132,4872 crore.
Both Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki are leading manufacturers of passenger cars and utility vehicles.
Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki are constituents of S&P BSE SENSEX. Tata Motors’ share price has risen 36% in the past three months and 94% in a year, according to BSE analysis. Meanwhile, Maruti shares have fallen 4% in the past three months. This counter has delivered a positive return of 13% over the past year.
Last week, Tata Motors announced a 0.7% increase in passenger car prices from February 1. The price increase also includes electric vehicles.
Meanwhile, Tata Motors is scheduled to announce its December quarter results on February 2. Tata Motors had reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 3,783 crore in the second quarter (July-September), supported by the strong performance of its British subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover. For the local auto giant, this was his fourth consecutive quarter of positive performance. The Mumbai-based company had posted a consolidated net loss of Rs 1,040 crore in the same period last year.
