After the second round of the Bahrain Championship on Friday, Jesper Svensson finished his lowest round of the day with a 7-under 65, rocketing him up the leaderboard and sharing the overall lead.
The Swede started the day six shots behind the leader, but had five birdies and one eagle in the first 10 holes of the DP World Tour event.
After bogeying the 17th hole, he made another birdie on the final hole to move into first place with Joel Garback and Dylan Frittelli with a total of 9 under.
“It was tough out there,” Svensson said after a windy day at the Royal Golf Course.
“I decided from the beginning that I was going to play pretty conservatively, and I was playing for big goals. In the first part of the round, I felt like I had a chance to go in every time I had the putter, so that was good. ” ”
Despite Gerbach overcoming a poor start with bogeys on his first two holes and four bogeys overall, the Swiss started the round with a 2-under 70, trailing leader Tom Vaillant by one last night. He started the round with a lead.
“I had a terrible start with two bogeys in the wind. It was tough early in the morning, but I was happy to persevere and finish,” Gerbach said.
South Africa’s Frittelli made a final birdie on the 68th to share the lead with Alejandro Del Rey as the favorite, but the Spaniard’s final bogey left him one shot behind the trio. .
Vaillant lost the lead with a 1-over-par round, but is still in contention with the lead group just two strokes behind.
Rasmus Højgaard, the highest-ranked player in the field at 70th place and the runner-up at Ras Al Khaimah last week, shot a 73 and was five strokes behind the leader.
