Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari recently said that India will become the number one automobile manufacturing hub by 2029. Not only that, Gadkari said, India will become the third largest economy in the next five years.
He further said that the key focus of the Center in this direction is building a world-class road network, transitioning to alternative fuels and reducing logistics costs. Mr. Gadkari emphasized the importance of good infrastructure, water, power, transportation and communication for capital investment, industrial and agricultural development.
He also said that the automobile industry contributes significantly to the Indian economy.
Gadkari said, “India has all the products and all the major companies. The automobile industry will power the Indian economy and we will become Atmanirbhar Bharat and the third largest economy in the world in the next five years. Deaf,” he said. This was quoted in the Economic Times.
The minister further said that the country’s highway network will rival that of the United States by the end of 2024, and that the ministry is building 36 highways to reduce travel times between major cities.

Gadkari also said that his infrastructure initiative will not depend on government funding and will instead provide a guaranteed return of 8.05% per annum to small investors who invest in bonds.
Gadkari also mentioned the government’s aim to reduce fossil fuel imports, which currently stands at Rs 1.60 lakh crore annually, and diversify into alternative fuels. He said the government is working on a project to produce ethanol and bio-asphalt using rice straw in collaboration with Indian Oil Corporation in Panipat.

The Minister concluded by expressing faith in the politics of progress and development and in the majority victory of the NDA alliance in the 2024 general elections. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we will once again get a majority and form a government,” Gadkari said.
He further pointed out that people will vote for good jobs across caste, creed, gender, religion and language.
