Hyundai Motor’s premium brand Genesis announced Friday that the Electrified G80 and Electrified GV70 have won awards at the 2024 Canadian Car of the Year Awards (CCOTY).
The Electrified G80 was named Electric Car of the Year and the Electrified GV70 was named Electric Utility Vehicle of the Year by the Automotive Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC).
The CCOTY Awards are Canadian Car of the Year, Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year, Canadian Electric Car of the Year and Canadian Electric Utility Vehicle of the Year. The year has been simplified into four categories.
All 2024 model year vehicles (200 or more) are eligible for CCOTY awards, including newly designed vehicles, recently updated vehicles, and vehicles carried over from last year.
AJAC is an association of professional journalists, writers, photographers and corporate members focused on automobiles and the Canadian auto industry.
The program’s more than 50 jurors are based across Canada. CCOTY is Canada’s only vehicle recognition system that drives all vehicles voted on by judges. Vehicles are tested every day from coast to coast on the same roads and conditions faced by Canadian drivers.
This is the latest of several CCOTY awards for Genesis in recent years, with Genesis’ gasoline-powered G80 model being the 2021 CCOTY category winner. There were two other finalists in the final voting: Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 and Kia’s EV9.
The judges praised the Electrified G80 for its elegant design and consistent performance, while the Electrified GV70 was recognized for its high-quality finish and powerful, quiet driving experience.
