DS Automobiles has rolled out access to ChatGPT for drivers after successful trials showed drivers wanted artificial intelligence (AI) assistance in their vehicles.
With this move, the company becomes the first company in Europe to integrate generative AI tools into its vehicles as standard.
The trial, which began in October last year, found that the use of voice recognition increased by more than 50% during the testing phase, offering a safer alternative for drivers who want to use their mobile phones.
The update will take effect from March this year and will be available to all DS Automobiles equipped with the DS IRIS voice-activated infotainment system.

Olivier François, Director of DS Automobiles, said: “As a pioneer in integrating ChatGPT into the automotive world, we are creating generative artificial intelligence that is fluid, intuitive, immersive and accessible, turning every trip into a unique journey.”
“DS’ mission is to provide our customers with a unique in-flight experience.”
The added ChatGPT functionality forms part of the Connect Plus Pack offer, which already includes connected navigation, remote control and electronic remote control.
It is also equipped with connected alarms, Send2Nav, and EV trip planners or e-Routes. This package will be standard on all DS Automobiles models for three years.
Yves Bonnefont, chief software officer at Stellantis, added: “Following a highly successful pilot phase and enthusiastic response from customers, we are proud to be the first OEM to integrate his ChatGPT functionality as standard.
“Starting with all DS models, other Stellantis brands will soon follow.”
ChatGPT uses language models to understand and generate natural, fluid interactions for drivers.
By learning from vast amounts of data, generative AI technology can answer a variety of questions and provide accurate and relevant information during your trip.
Bonnefont explained how this conversational AI model works and how its ability to interact with people around the world has become a constant fascination over the past year.
“Since ChatGPT became available, we have been working on integrating it into our own systems, and we are pleased to be the first in Europe to offer this innovation.”
ChatGPT integration is available in a six-month pilot phase at no additional cost if you subscribe between October 19, 2023 and February 29, 2024.
