The 2030 FIFA World Cup will be held in six countries on three continents to commemorate the soccer tournament’s 100th anniversary, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Morocco, Portugal and Spain are joint bidders to host most matches, while Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina are joint bidders to host three matches, one in each country.
The first World Cup match in history was held in Uruguay’s capital Montevideo in 1930.
FIFA has announced that it will also hold a “unique 100th anniversary celebration” in Montevideo.
“In 2030, three continents – Africa, Europe and South America – and six countries – Argentina, Morocco, Paraguay, Portugal, Spain and Uruguay – will join together to celebrate this beautiful game, a unique game that welcomes and unites the world. “It will have a global footprint of 100 years and the FIFA World Cup,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
The 2026 World Cup will be held in cities in the United States, Canada and Mexico, making it the first time the tournament will be held across three host countries.
Preparations for the 2034 FIFA World Cup have already begun, with Saudi Arabia announcing its bid to host the tournament.
