Hello, my name is Nick Wasenried.
0:08
I’m a senior leader in the Enterprise Data Group, and the last seven years at CoreLogic have been very interesting. Because it was a series of lateral moves that ultimately led to last year’s promotion.
0:23
A great example of how career growth doesn’t always mean being promoted to a higher position.
0:31
One of the key things I learned at CoreLogic is the need to actively manage your career.
0:36
When I first joined the company, I worked at Accenture, a consulting company.
0:42
I had a very strict career path.
0:46
So you work as an analyst for a few years, then you move to a consultant, and after X years you move to a manager, and so on.
0:55
After working at Accenture, I moved to FNC, a small startup.
1:00
I was reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer.
1:03
In other words, there was no concept of a career path.
1:09
When FNC was acquired by CoreLogic, I think in my mind I envisioned something like Accenture’s well-defined career path. And what I’ve learned over the years is that no such structure actually exists.
1:25
We’re more matrixed, but we have more opportunities, we have a wide range of opportunities, but we don’t need active engagement.
1:34
It means going out and meeting people outside your group, building relationships with different types of managers, and understanding how your skill set can really be applied outside of your current area. .
1:48
One of the great things about working in the Enterprise Data Group is the exposure to a variety of data and analytics assets, which has opened up some interesting doors for me, including my work here at the Discovery Center. He gave it to me.
2:02
When I first started my job, this wasn’t really part of my formal role or responsibilities.
2:09
I was exposed to this somewhat through the tour and it got the gears turning in terms of how my skill set would be useful at the Discovery Center.
2:19
So, after some time had passed, I met with John Rogers and explained my background and how I envisioned myself potentially fitting into this role.
2:29
This is an example of me being proactive in managing my career by building a relationship with John and being able to organize discussions about how I could help.
2:42
I actually thought about how I could add value to the process and really enjoyed my time here.
2:49
Again, just being exposed to the different ways clients think was a great experience.
