Speaking at an event to announce the Nigeria Annual Automotive Industry Awards held in Lagos on Monday, the Chairman of the initiative, Samuel Olowede Oliowo, said the organization is organizing campaigns, seminars on road safety for stakeholders in Nigeria. , said that it is realizing its core objectives through workshops. He said the Automotive and Road Safety Initiative will help ensure that a significant proportion of the country’s current auto repair technicians are aging and are old enough to embrace the latest auto technology needed to function as modern auto repairers. The NGO said it also established the West African Automotive Institute, which was inaugurated during the 1st Nigeria Annual Automotive Industry Awards held in Lagos in December 2022.

He said the institute was established to address the apparent knowledge gap and train young people from the community and universities in the best and most prestigious techniques in vehicle maintenance.
He said the management had begun discussions with the federal government to cede one of the premises of the agency in Osun State to the institute for use as a campus.
“The West African Automobile Association is a novel idea that promotes knowledge and develops young people who leverage the latest technology from vehicle manufacturing plants to maintenance shops to advance safe driving and durable vehicle initiatives.” he said.
Mr Oliowo said the NGO was also finalizing plans to hold the 2nd Nigeria Automotive Industry Awards, which was established to recognize the creativity of major companies in the Nigerian automobile industry and to recognize outstanding companies. .

He said the award promotes standard work ethics and discourages the production of counterfeit automotive lubricants, parts and related products that negatively impact the industry and the country’s economy.
He added that the second edition of the awards will be held in Lagos on Monday, November 27, 2023 with the theme “Celebrating the best and brightest in the Nigerian automotive industry”.
Mr Oliowo added that the categories of the award had been expanded and several sectors of the industry were considered deserving of the honour.
