Food Science PhD graduate Sara Jama Arroyo is currently a Senior Sensory and Consumer Scientist at PepsiCo.
Sarah Djalma Arroyo, a recent Ph.D. She is a graduate student in food science and has been selected as the recipient of the 2022 Perception Institute Student Award.
The annual international awards are presented to undergraduate or graduate students who have demonstrated outstanding talent and achievement in the fields of sensory science, marketing, psychology, economics, or related fields. She will receive her memorial plaque and $1,000 and attend IFP’s meeting Nov. 7-10 at the Greenbrier Resort in While Sulfur Springs, West Virginia.
Jerma Arroyo received her PhD in Food Science with an emphasis in Sensory and Consumer Sciences.
She worked under the guidance of Han Seok Seo, a food science professor and researcher and scientist at the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station, a research arm of the University System College of Agriculture. Seo is also the director of the Center for Sensory Sciences, where Djalma Arroyo worked.
“Sarah is a talented and passionate researcher in the field of sensory and consumer science,” said Seo. “Sarah’s contributions to research, her commitment to the sensory community, and her passion for the field of sensory and consumer sciences are recognized with this award.”
As a student, she won the 2022 American Industrial Alliance Conference’s Terry Siebenmorgen Graduate Student Poster Presentation Contest and the University of A’s University-wide 3-Minute Essay Contest for “Relieve Stress? Your Emotional State Influences the Way You Perceive.” I won with my presentation titled “I will give you the best possible results.” Food” and Bumpers College’s Gamma Sigma Delta Poster and Oral Contest – Ph.D. Oral Poster Division.
She was also selected as the recipient of the Institute of Food Technologists’ Feeding Tomorrow Graduate Scholarship ($2,000) and received an honorable mention in the Sensory and Consumer Sciences Poster Competition at the 2020 IFT Conference.
