A woman who was on a plane on a trip with her husband had her happy time turned into a nightmare after the plane’s flight attendant noticed she was “sweating” and deemed her unfit to fly. I realized that I had missed it. According to reports, she was flying from Newcastle to Rome when the incident occurred. The airline that took her off the plane, Jet2, also responded to the incident. Not only did they apologize, but they refunded her vacation time as a “sign of goodwill.”
What happened that led to her getting off the plane?
The woman, identified as 56-year-old Helen Taylor, has type 2 diabetes and was in good health when she boarded the plane, Chronicle Live reported. She started feeling dizzy and went to her bathroom and started sweating, but after a few minutes she felt better.
“I really needed to go to the bathroom, so I asked one of the flight attendants if I could go while the passengers were still on board,” Helen told Chronicle Live. “She (the flight attendant) said, ‘Yes, it’s no problem.’ But when I went outside, I started sweating and felt a little dizzy, and the stewardess saw that and asked, ‘Are you okay?’ He gave it to me. “I’m totally fine. I just went without eating all day and I have type 2 diabetes, so my blood sugar levels just went back up. All I need to do is sit down and drink water. I’m fine. I’m totally fine,” Taylor added, explaining that she also goes through menopause.
How did the flight attendants react?
Upon finding her sweating, the flight attendant decided to “perform a medical check” and also asked about her condition. They then told her: “We have made the decision that you must exit the plane. We believe you are at risk of leaving the plane.”
What did the airline say?
Taylor then contacted the airline and informed them of the incident. The airline issued a statement regarding the incident after investigating the matter.
“After working with independent medical aviation experts, our crew made this decision because the health, welfare and safety of our customers is always our top priority. After further investigation, we have reached out to Ms. Taylor to apologize and, as a gesture of goodwill, have decided to refund her vacation time,” a Jet2 spokesperson told the publication.
