- The Albert Lea Tigers football team played its final home game of the season, losing to Rochester Century 28-7. Cody Hansen’s touchdown pass to Matt Tiegs in the fourth quarter was the Tigers’ only score.
- Riley Worth took first place this week with a 461 in the Educators Men’s Bowling League at Holiday Lanes. Kristin Shanahan posted a 455 to earn top honors in the women’s league.
- The Albert Lea girls soccer team advanced to its fourth straight sectional final with a 2-0 victory over Mankato East. Taylor Friel and Sophie Miller scored for the Tigers, who are 14-4-2 under coach Rick Barnhill.
- The Albert Lea Tigers volleyball team ended the regular season with a 3-0 loss to Rochester John Marshall. Kaylee Tennis had eight set assists against the Tigers in the loss.
20 years
- The Albert Lea Tigers football team traveled to Austin and lost to the undefeated Austin Packers 28-14. Ryan Truesdell and Brandon Krukow each ran for touchdowns for the Tigers.
- The Albert Lea girls soccer team opened sectional play with a 4-0 win over Willmar at Hammer Field. Amy Malka scored two points for the Tigers, and Jerry Mondir and Laura Hillman each added one.
- The Albert Lea boys soccer team won its first game, 2-0, against Glencoe Silver Lake at Hammer Field. Jeremy Jacobson and Jake Clark scored for the Tigers, who will face Northfield in the semifinals.
- In the final regular season game of the season, the Albert Lea girls volleyball team defeated Rochester John Marshall 3-0, earning its first home win of the season. Daniel Rankin had one block, eight kills and one ace for the Tigers.
50 years
- Looking back at Albert Lea Tigers football, Mike Pappas (1969-1970) was the all-time leading scorer with 126 points, including 90 points as a senior. His career rushing leader was Mel Stensrud (1961-1963) with 1,772 yards rushing.
- Len Stanek has been named president of the Albert Lea Adult Hockey Association.
- The Albert Lea Tigers cross country team defeated Winona 18-43 to improve to 6-3 on the year. Jim Johnson paced the Tigers around the Brookside course with a time of 16 minutes, 43 seconds.
- The Minnesota North Stars announced they have signed veterans Danny Grant and Jude Drouin to long-term contracts.
- Vida Blue was playing against Jim Palmer in the Oakland Athletics’ American League playoff opener against the Baltimore Orioles.
- Homecoming A packed Albert Lea Tigers defeated Mankato West 35-14 at Hammer Field. Mike Curry led the Tigers with three touchdowns and 160 yards.
- Albert Lea graduate Jay Gustafson threw for 280 yards as the University of North Dakota defeated Morningside University 43-7 in a North Central Conference football game.

In a 1928 football game between Albert Lea and Austin at Lower Abbott Field, “Fat” Nelson’s 105-yard kick off a snowbank prevented Austin from scoring against the Tigers.
