Kathmandu, October 15: Nepal defeated Bahrain by seven wickets in the ongoing ACC Men’s U19 Premier Cup 2023 match in Malaysia. Chasing a paltry target of 78 runs set by Bahrain, Nepal achieved the target in 11.4 overs despite losing three wickets. Nepal won the tournament for the second consecutive time. Earlier, Nepal defeated Iran in the first match by a huge margin of 274 points.
For the winning team, Dev Khanal remained unbeaten for 32 runs with four boundaries and one six off 27 balls. Similarly, Arjun Kumar also achieved 32 off his 31. His score included 4 and 5. Opening pitcher Dipak Bohara contributed to four runs.
For Bahrain, Anas Obaid Saeed took three wickets alone. Bahrain, who won the toss and batted first, scored 77 runs in 37.5 overs despite losing all their wickets. For the team, Muhammad Basil hit the best 34 with 77, two sixes and two fours. However, other players failed to reach double-digit points as a team. Rishabh Ramesh contributed six times, Ayan Obaid Saeed three times and Sai Sarthak Vadiraju twice. On the bowling side, Nepal’s Dipesh Khandel took six wickets alone while Durgesh Gupta took four wickets.
Nepal will play the third match against Saudi Arabia on October 19. If they win the match, they will advance to the semi-finals. The top three winners of this tournament will qualify for the ACC Asia Cup to be held in Pakistan in December.
