Cancer survivor Thorstein Trane will compete on the 2024 World Tour with the aim of joining Bahrain Victorious.
The 28-year-old Norwegian will move opposite Uno-X, giving the team an extra card to play in mountainous terrain. Trane finished eighth at the Critérium du Dauphiné behind winner and Tour de France champion Jonas Vangegaard.
“I’m very excited to join the team and the new challenges it brings,” he said in a team release Thursday. “I believe this team will be the perfect place for me to learn from great people and take the necessary steps for my own growth.”

In 2022, doctors advised Mr. Train about suspicious blood levels during a routine anti-doping test that were found to be a possible indicator of cancer. Further tests revealed early-stage testicular cancer, and Trane underwent surgery.
After just two months, he recovered and started training again. His comeback has been remarkable, as he made his racing debut in the 2023 Tour de France in July with Uno-X, finishing 95th overall.
So far, Trane is the third player confirmed to join Bahrain Victorious in 2024. Two development riders will also be joining next season: Trinity Racing’s Finlay Pickering and Friuli ASD’s Alberto Bruttomesso.
Several riders will transfer, including Mikel Landa (Soudal-Quick-Step) and Filip Maciejuk (Bora-Hansgrohe). Heinrich Hausler has retired and the team is still reeling from the death of Gino Mader during a race in June.
Team anchors Perro Bilbao, Jack Haig, Wout Poels, Matej Mohoric and Damiano Caruso are all under contract until 2024.
We are pleased to announce the signing of 📣 @Torsteintren For the 2024-2025 season.#RideAsOne
