The 2023/2024 Zain Bahrain Basketball League tonight marks the beginning of another exciting campaign in the Kingdom’s leading basketball championship. This season, 11 clubs are participating, and Manama, which won back-to-back titles last time out, is aiming for a historic three-peat.
But their rivals, led by eternal rivals Muharraq and Al Ahly, will mount a tough challenge. Al Hara, Al Etihad, Al Najma, Sitra, Bahrain Club, Nuwairat, Isa Town and Samahij also want to make their presence felt on the hardwood.
Bahrain’s B men’s national team is also participating this season, but their results will not be counted in the league standings. The first night of tonight’s matches will feature a Muharraq vs. Sitra match scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. Tomorrow, Hala and Etihad will face each other at 5.30pm, followed by Bahrain Club and Najma at 7.30pm.
On Thursday, Ahly will take on Nuweidrat at 5.30pm, followed by Manama against Samaheej at 7.30pm. Activities of the 2023/2024 Zain Bahrain Basketball League are scheduled to continue until May next year.
Manama won the 2022/2023 league title, capping off a remarkable season in which they won three major trophies, including the Khalifa Bin Salman Cup and the first-ever FIBA West Asia Super League.
Manama Kicks defeated Muharraq in their traditional annual season opener last week to win the late Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa Cup, also known as the Bahrain Super Cup, earning them a place in the 2023/2024 season. The opening has begun.
