Parliamentarian Dr Mariam Ardern said yesterday at a meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) that Bahrain was recognized by the United Nations General Assembly as one of the countries active in working towards achieving gender equality.
Addressing the IPU Conference on the theme “Achieving Gender Equality in the United Nations General Assembly”, she said Bahrain strives to promote women’s rights and uphold principles and goals that promote women’s participation in all fields. He said that
She was attending the meeting as part of the activities of the Standing Committee on United Nations Affairs held in connection with the 147th IPU General Assembly in Angola. Dr. Aldern further said that Bahrain’s efforts to achieve gender equality include adopting the recommendations and guiding decisions of the United Nations General Assembly, promoting women’s rights, and working to ensure gender equality.
“The Kingdom of Bahrain is keen to participate in international forums and conferences, especially those that discuss issues of gender equality and ways to strengthen women’s rights,” she said. We also actively participate in international committees and councils related to gender equality issues, such as the Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the Committee on Sustainable Development. ”

Financial and technical support is provided by Bahrain to projects and programs that promote the principles of equal opportunity and gender equality at national, regional and international levels, the parliamentarian explained.
Saudi Arabia is also keen to strengthen cooperation with international organizations involved in gender equality issues, such as UN Women. The parliamentarian further said that the Kingdom recognizes that artificial intelligence and technology can be powerful tools to promote gender equality and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
