Chelsea Edgehill talks about inspiration and the future
Edge Hill – Full name Chelsea Aretha Renee Edge Hill, named after former US first daughter chelsea clintonsoul music star aretha franklinand a family friend relishes her position as a role model, just as she has drawn inspiration from previous Guyanese female Olympians.
“My role models were, and still are. alien pompeii“She made me want to go to the Olympics. I watched her compete in the Olympics (Pompey competed in four Olympics from 2000 to 2012 in track and field). “I told myself I wanted to go too,” Edgehill declared. She is to be like her. ”
Pompey is a two-time Commonwealth Games medalist, her best Olympic result being 11th overall in the women’s 400m at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and remains one of Guyana’s most successful athletes in history.
“I think I met her at the Commonwealth Games a few years ago and she was really sweet and encouraging. Every time we met, the conversations were so inspiring and just trying to keep going, keep fighting, keep getting better. I will continue to do so.” ”
That’s also something she learned from Pompey and hopes future Guyanese sports stars will follow in her footsteps.
“There’s an aspect of being a role model, and you take that into account in everything you do, especially when you’re a pioneer. [I enjoy] The ability to inspire young people, especially young women, and let them know that they can play sports and do anything they put their mind to.
“Once you believe and try, it is possible.”
