On Tuesday, Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers tried to characterize his team’s glass. as 10% full. It’s probably 5 percent full after Friday’s loss to the Dolphins, which dropped New York to 4-7.
Rodgers will continue to strive for a return in 2023.
“When I received the doctor’s note that I was healthy, then he will be cleared for practice” coach Robert Saleh told reporters Saturday morning.
Saleh does not have an update on when that will happen. Last Sunday, Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reported that Rodgers: Hoping to return to practice on December 2ndThis day is Rodgers’ 40th birthday and the day before the Jets’ next game against the Falcons.
It makes no sense to hold out hope that Rodgers will return in 2023. It would be wiser to use his next appearance on the weekly in-season platform with Pat McAfee to say he won’t be back this year, but will be back next year. And everything he and the team do for the rest of the season should be done with the full knowledge that no matter what happens this year, they’ll be Jets next year.
Something could happen, but nothing has happened to the Jets so far. Tim Boyle is not the answer. Trevor Siemian won’t even get a chance to be the answerer. And Zach Wilson is just the answer to one specific question: Which quarterbacks currently on the roster have less than a zero percent chance of being on the team next season?
The sooner the Jets pivot toward 2024, the better off they’ll be. The sooner Rodgers abandons the fantasy of playing in 2023, the sooner everyone can pivot to 2024.
