The 18th AFC Asian Cup was held in January and February this year, a little later than usual, and as you know, the year is 2023, even though it will be held in 2024.
That’s because the tournament is being held in Qatar, the reigning champions, and it’s quite hot in the summer. As a result, the event has been moved to winter, with the Qataris hoping to win it again after winning their first Asian Cup in 2019, hosted by the UAE.
Japan, South Korea, Iran, and Australia are all top 25 teams in the FIFA rankings, so they will have to face big countries with big stars.

Japan, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea are the most accomplished teams in tournament history. Saudi Arabia and South Korea have reached the finals six times, the most ever, while Japan has won four out of five finals. Iran tied with Saudi Arabia for the second-most titles with three wins.
Israel won the tournament in 1964 before joining UEFA, while Australia, Iraq and Qatar have all won the Asian Cup. China, UAE, India and Myanmar all reached the finals, but fell one win short of the trophy.
