As part of the 2023/2024 Zain Bahrain Basketball League Week 4 matches, Al Ahly registered a resounding 93-79 victory over Muharraq last night in a battle between perennial title contenders.
Ahly led by as many as 16 points in the final two periods and used a strong performance in the second half to break up a close game. With this result, Ahly recorded their third win in four games, but Muharraq suffered their first loss in three league games.
Ahmed Al-Dulazi led Ahly’s victory with 21 points, including five 3-pointers. Adrian Uter added 18 markers and Unique McLean had 15 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
For Muharraq, Tyler Wilkerson led the way, finishing with 35 points and eight boards. However, they received little help as Bakel Issa was the only player to score in double figures with 12 points and Hussein Salman with 10 points.
Ahly were on the offensive for most of the first half. They led 24-20 after the opening period and held a 40-36 lead going into intermission. Ahly began to pull away from her rival in the third set, extending her advantage to double digits and heading into the final canto at 67-57.
Muharraq made a brave attempt to get back into the match in the fourth, but Ahly answered each time, keeping his rival at bay until the final whistle. Meanwhile, in another game last night, Alex Young made a 3-pointer with 16.1 seconds left to help lead Al Hara to a hard-fought 98-94 victory over Nuweidrat.
Young’s basket came after Omran Yousif scored on a fast break to give Nuweydrat a narrow 94-92 lead. Nuwidrat led by 11 points early on, but Hara fought back to keep it close, resulting in a close game. Young then sank three consecutive free throws with seconds remaining for the final score.
Young scored a game-high 43 points, including Hara’s four triples. Hassan Abbas scored 19 points and Tyron Nash added 17 points. Sameen Swint scored 35 points, Lamar Mallory 26 points and Youssif 20 points for Nuwidrat. With this result, Hara improved to 3 wins and 1 loss, but Nuwidrat fell to 2 wins and 2 losses. mark.
