It’s no secret that the Denver Broncos have struggled on defense lately, and while you might think $70 million Randy Gregory would be part of the solution, the team has diagnosed him as a problem. However, he was taken out of action on Wednesday.
There are many reasons why Sean Payton’s team would want to move on from the 30-year-old. Most importantly, in his nearly 20 months in Denver, he appeared in just 10 games and recorded three sacks. This is a giant bust signed by George Paton. The small problem, however, is that the Broncos are getting back a key defender who needed to make room on the roster.
Outside linebacker Baron Browning was released from the physically unavailable list this week and is scheduled to begin practice. According to 9News Insider and 104.3 The Fan contributor Mike Klis.. The 24-year-old suffered a torn meniscus in May. It’s doubtful Browning will play against the Jets, but he had more sacks last season alone than Gregory had during his time with the Broncos, and in 14 games in 2022, Browning will total 24 tackles, eight for a loss, and five sacks. He recorded one interception and two pass deflections.
Browning missed three games in each of the past two seasons due to various injuries. He also missed time during OTAs leading up to his 2021 rookie campaign.
Browning was a third-team All-Big Ten player in 2020 and was selected by the Broncos with the 105th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Browning hopes to help repair a defense that has struggled since trading Bradley Chubb at last year’s deadline.
