Ansbach, Germany (December 28, 2023) — 2023 brought great success to the United States Army Garrison (USAG) Ansbach Family, Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (FMWR) Sports Department. Offering a variety of sports such as basketball, volleyball, softball, soccer and flag football, the program is designed to promote Corps spirit to the unit’s occupants, including families and civilians.
These local sports programs are the pathway to the Facilities Management Command European Forces Championships as well as the highly competitive Army-wide sports programs. This program reflects the dedication and professionalism of U.S. military personnel and provides a platform for soldier-athletes to demonstrate the highest standards of athleticism and sportsmanship.
The All-Army and Military sports programs provide the highest level of competition for Soldier-athletes, and it is an honor to attend a trial camp and be selected to try out for an All-Army team. Displaying immense skill and dedication, five of his Soldier-Athletes were selected from the unit stationed at USAG Ansbach to demonstrate their diverse athletic abilities at the Army level.
“For a small community like Ansbach, having five Soldiers selected to participate in various trial camps is a huge accomplishment,” said Ansbach FMWR Sports & Fitness Director Chris Cornelison.
Sergeant Megan Weir of the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade (12CAB) and Sergeant Kathryn Little of the 5-4th Air Defense Artillery Regiment (5-4ADAR) demonstrate their skills at the Women’s Soccer Trial Camp held April 30th. was chosen for. Through May 6 at Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Adding depth to the roster, 1LT Hannah Vette, also from 5-4 ADAR, has been selected to participate in the girls softball trial camp with the 12CAB CPT Summer Lancet. The camp was held from July 13th to August 4th at Fort Carson, Colorado. CPT Lancet was selected for the trial camp, but was unable to participate due to a last-minute trip. The 1LT veteran attended camp and was subsequently selected to compete in the U.S. Army Championships in Oklahoma City in August. However, due to an injury, the 1LT veteran was unfortunately unable to finish the competition.
Another 12CAB member, CPT Jacob Sullivan, will represent the Ansbach District at the Men’s Rugby Trial Camp, rounding out an impressive line-up of Soldier-athletes. The camp was held from August 14th to 24th at Fort Carson, Colorado.
These Soldier-Athletes exemplify the Army’s values of discipline, perseverance, and teamwork while highlighting the multifaceted abilities of service members. Their journey from participation in local sport to national representation is a testament to their dedication, skill and commitment on and off the field.

“We will continue to advocate for our local athletes to submit their applications. There were a lot of soldiers who were killed,” Corneson said. “My response every time was to just submit an application and have the unit leader say no. If you don’t apply, you won’t get a chance.”
