Raiders owner Mark Davis has a chance to do what he should have done two years ago. His job is to hire an interim coach who will have the team play with heart.
The Raiders will not hire interim coach Rich Bissacia as their full-time coach after the 2021 season, instead selecting Josh McDaniels. It also comes two years after interim coach Antonio Pierce did well enough to earn the job this offseason.
After going 3-5 with McDaniels, Las Vegas is now 4-3 with Pierce and remains in playoff contention.
Pearce wanted the job and feels he earned it.
“my resume is on the lawn. what do you want? ” Pearce said via Tyler Dragon. USA Today. “I can put on a flashy presentation. I’ve seen it before. I can put up statistics. I can put up a resume. But the best thing that happened to me was the opportunity. I probably said it last week too. But my worst day as a head coach was my first day. And every day is my job, and I really take pride in growing every day to get better. Nothing changes.
“At the end, whatever my career was, whatever my coaching career was, I’m going to look at it and sit there and say, ‘Look, this is who he was.’ And Mark Davis… I hope he improves and grows within our team. He sees the style and play he wants for the Raiders. He recognizes that we have a fan base behind us. He , I saw a building that loves coming to work, loves being here. And the people that cover the team, they enjoy covering the team. And at the end of the day, We have to win. And my record right now, our record is 4 wins and 3 losses.”
The Raiders crushed the Chargers and upset the Chiefs over the past two weeks. With games against the Colts and Broncos ending the regular season, Pierce has a chance to finish his audition without leaving any doubts in Davis’ mind.
