Asia/Bahrain – Seeds of the Pontifical Missionary Society among the Vicariates of the Apostolic See of North Arabia
Manama (Fides) – Promoting the missionary spirit of priests who pastorally accompany foreign worker communities in the Arabian Peninsula was the main focus of a lecture by Fr Dinh Anh Nguyen OFM, Secretary-General of the Pontifical Missionary Union. It was the purpose. It was held on the occasion of the annual general meeting of the clergy of the Apostolic Vicariate of North Arabia, which includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Arabia.
The meeting, which recently gathered nearly 60 priests, will also be attended by the Apostolic Nuncios of Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar, Archbishop Eugene Nugent, and Bishop Aldo Berardi, Vicar of the Apostolic See of Northern Arabia. The Secretary-General of the Pontifical Missionary Union first delivered greetings from Cardinal Tagle, Director General of the Pontifical Missionary Union, and Archbishop Emilio Nappa, President of the Pontifical Missionary Union.
The lecture was divided into two parts, and in each part participants discussed the spirituality of missionaries and specific missionary activities in the field. In the first part of his talk, Father Nguyen addressed the theme of missionary spirituality, starting with the Pope’s message for this year’s World Mission Sunday, and also referred to the Pope’s address to the Pontifical Missionary Society during the General Assembly ( cf. Fides 3/06/2023), the second part addressed the themes of pastoral care and mission, and the role that the Pontifical Missionary Society can play in the new missionary movement within the Church.
Father Nguyen’s recent visit is part of the path Cardinal Tagle followed when he visited Bahrain two years ago for the dedication of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Arabia. “Of course, it is not natural to talk about evangelization in these areas,” Father Nguyen explains. He supports the church through prayers, sacrifices and material donations. ”
