Bahrain have been drawn into a tough Group A in the 2023 Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group V match.
The zonal event will be held in Saudi Arabia, with matches scheduled to start at 10am today on the Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) hard courts in Isa Town.
The competition will feature 13 men’s national teams from across the continent.
Bahrain’s senior men’s national tennis team is in Group A along with Bhutan and Myanmar.
Group B includes Yemen, Qatar and Nepal, while Group C includes Bangladesh, Mongolia and Maldives.
Group D consists of four teams: Brunei, Laos, Tajikistan, and Macau.
The draw was held yesterday at BTF headquarters along with a pre-tournament technical meeting.
All teams competing from overseas have already arrived in Bahrain ahead of the start of today’s match.
At the event, the quartet of Elias Abdulnabi, Faris Altubri, Shadi Khalel and Hassan Abdulnabi will be flying the kingdom’s flag.
They are led by Abdulkarim Abdulnabi.
After one round-robin in this opening stage, the top teams from each of the four groups will advance to the playoff round.
The two winners will advance to Group IV for next year’s Davis Cup competition.
Davis Cup is one of the premier world tournaments for men’s tennis, run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
Saudi Arabia is hosting the Asia/Oceania team tournament for the third consecutive year.
