The Bahrain Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEWA), on behalf of the Ministry of Interior (MOI), has invited proposals for the development and operation of projects combining solar power generation and electric vehicle (EV) charging on MOI premises.
MEWA’s bid is a request for proposals (RFP) to build, own, operate and maintain (BOOM) a grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant with a minimum capacity of 15.5 MWac (megawatt AC) on a building rooftop. Bidders are invited to do so. A parking lot with EV charging stations, according to a notification from the Bahrain Tender Committee.
The notice states that the term of the BOOM contract is 20 years.
It also emphasized that the fixed tariff rate quoted by bidders must not exceed 21 fils per kWh.
RFP documents are available for purchase until January 30, 2024. The closing date is March 31, 2024, and the bid opening date is April 1, 2024.
The lead bidder of an individual company or consortium must be a local company or a GCC company registered in Bahrain or a GCC country. International companies can only participate through consortia. In addition, bidders must have successfully commissioned at least 10 MWac of grid-tied solar PV projects, solar parking garage projects, or solar rooftop projects in the past five years.
