His Excellency Osama bin Ahmed Khalaf Al Asfour, Minister of Social Development, confirmed that Bahrain is keen to support children’s rights through progressive legislation and the application of legislation. These include the Restorative Justice and Protection from Abuse Act, which concerns the protection of children under the age of 18.
Al Asfour spoke yesterday as Saudi Arabia joined the international community to celebrate World Children’s Day. He highlighted Bahrain’s progress in protecting children’s constitutional rights.
The Minister supports public authorities, private organizations and citizens to ensure the highest level of protection for children, protect their rights to education, health and care in a safe environment, and ensure a bright future for children. The role of social organizations was noted.
Al Asfour said the law on restorative justice and protection of children from abuse strengthened the role of child protection centers under the Ministry of Social Development. The center is the entity responsible for child protection and the evaluation and follow-up of cases of abused children.
We also follow up on cases of juvenile delinquents who face potential risks. Through policies, laws, programs and services that ensure the protection of children, as well as raising family and societal awareness of children’s issues.
