Bahrain were last night placed in the tough Group B of the FIBA Olympic Qualification Tournament (OQT), aiming for a historic qualification to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The draw was held virtually last night by FIBA, with 24 participating teams taking part in their respective OQTs. OQT will be held in four countries from July 2nd to 7th next year.
The Saudi senior men’s national basketball team is participating in the OQT in Puerto Rico.
They are in Group B with Italy and will host Puerto Rico, while OQT’s Group A includes Mexico, Ivory Coast and Lithuania.
Other OQTs will be hosted by Spain, Latvia and Greece. Group A of the Spanish OQT includes Lebanon, Angola and the Spanish hosts, while Group B includes Finland, Poland and the Bahamas.
Group A of the Latvia OQT includes Georgia and the Philippines, host country Latvia is included in Group B, and Brazil, Cameroon and Montenegro are included in Group B. Group A of the Greece OQT includes Slovenia, New Zealand and Croatia, while Group B includes Egypt, hosts Greece and the Dominican Republic. Republic.
The winner of each OQT will qualify for the Paris Games, with hosts France joining Germany, Serbia, Japan, Australia, Canada, the United States and South Sudan, who have booked a spot at this year’s FIBA Basketball World Cup. . They will form a field of 12 people aiming for gold at the Olympics.
Bahrain will participate in the FIBA OQT for the first time in history. They won five games by a landslide in the Asian Qualifiers held in Damascus, Syria in August last year, earning them a spot in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
