Bahrain’s rugby team wins the five-team Jordan Sevens tournament, defeating the hosts 34-5 in a one-sided final in Amman, making their first appearance in an international tournament a lasting memory. I made it.
The Kingdome team led 14-5 at halftime and added pressure in the second half as Jordan faltered under sustained attacks. This means Bahrain finished the one-day tournament unbeaten in all four matches played.
The remaining three teams in the tournament were Kurdistan, English club Saracens and Jordan Reserves, with Bahrain advancing to the finals by defeating Reserves 37-0 and Kurdistan 47-7.
Bahrain Rugby Federation (BRF) President Nader Shaheen told GDN: “We are happy for our players who showed energetic and strong performances against Jordan, the Jordanian Reserve and Kurdistan.”
“This victory highlights the quality and strength of rugby played in Bahrain and solidifies us as a team to keep an eye on for years to come.
“The team’s efforts in training and fitness have given us an edge in the competition and we are looking forward to the next tournament in Doha in early November. We are very proud of this achievement. I am delighted with the players and their dedication to Rugby Bahrain.”
BRF Director of Rugby Rory Drummond told GDN he could not be more pleased with the team’s performance.
“Although we faced tough opponents, especially in Kurdistan and Jordan, everyone performed to the best of their abilities, leading to a historic victory for the Kingdom of Bahrain,” he added.
“This tournament is a springboard for the future for us as a national team, with our next competition being the Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy in Qatar in three weeks.
“There were many outstanding players in the tournament, but Gregory Heath’s eight tries in four games was a highlight.
“Part of my job is to raise awareness about the game of rugby in this country and I believe that having a strong national team performing at the top level is one of the most effective ways to do so. I am.
“My team and I are very proud to represent Bahrain and I hope this inspires others to give rugby a try in the Kingdom.”
