Bahrain Youth and Junior National Golf Team narrowly missed out on the podium at the Pan Arab Ladies and Junior Championship 2023 hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at Riyadh Golf Club.
The Saudi under-15 boys team and under-18 boys team joined the fray. It was a good experience for both teams to play against the best golfers of their generation in the region. The under-15 team came closest to the podium.
They were ranked fourth overall out of eight countries, four strokes shy of winning the bronze medal. Bahrain played for a total of 498 points over the three days. Tunisia won the team gold medal with a total of 449 points, Egypt won the silver medal with 482 points, and Saudi Arabia won the bronze medal with 494 points.
Khalid Shah of Bahrain’s U-15 team showed great form in the second and third rounds and was able to finish tied for fifth in the individual category despite a below-average first day. Shah was joined in his age class by Yousif Shah and Jacob Majid. The under-18 team finished seventh out of 10 teams in their group. They consisted of Abdulrahman Ebrahim, Abdulrahman Mehazea and Faisal Abdullah.
A total of 482 rounds were played in 3 rounds. Morocco won the under-18 gold medal with a total of 416 points, followed by the UAE who won the silver medal with 450 points and Egypt who won the bronze medal with 453 points. The Bahrain golf delegation for this tournament was headed by Duaij Khalifa of the Bahrain Golf Association, and included head coach Gabriel Sota.
