The Bahraini tandem of Faris Al Toubry and Shadi Khalel yesterday advanced to the men’s doubles quarter-finals at the ongoing Bahrain ITF Junior 2023 tournament at the Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) hard courts in Isa Town.
This tournament is a J30 event that is part of the 2023 International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Tennis Tour Junior and will be attended by the world’s top tennis players between the ages of 13 and 18.
Faris and Shadi qualified by defeating Germany’s Elias Kahn Herdt and Egypt’s Ahmed Ibrahim 6-3, 7-5 in the first round.
They will next face second-seeded Indian pair Sampreet Sharma and Rushikesh Sonawane, who defeated Georgy Arakelian and Daniil Karpkin 6-2, 6-3 in another encounter in the opening stages. won.
Other pit top seeds in the top eight, Venkat Rishi Batranchi (USA) and Deb Kambargimas (Romania), will face off against Sasha Fontanges (France) and Idhant Kaswal (India). In the women’s singles, seventh seed Alina Sogomonyan defeated Hajar Zaidan of Bahrain 6-0, 6-3. Meanwhile, in women’s doubles, Hajjar and her partner Sayet Varadkar (India) lost to Alina Marigina and Anastasia Myatina 2-6, 6-7 (3).
